The aim was to develop local capacities to install and operate the new irrigation system, show some best on-farm management practices and introduce nutritional and climate-resilient food and feed crops, including quinoa, pearl millet, sorghum and buffel grass.

About 27 facilitators, including participants from local research institutes and extension institutions as well as individual farmers with a keen interest in the project development, were trained during February and March in The Gambia and Sierra Leone.

Moreover, FFS was organized for 30 farmers in The Gambia and 10 farmers in Sierra Leone, including 87% of women farmers in both countries.
